ABOUT THE ARTIST

Camilo Torres was born in 1963, in Bogotá Colombia. It grows within an environment where it was always open to knowledge in areas such as literature, history and art. He study advertising design and motivated by his love of art, he decides to study at the School of Fine Arts of Bogotá, Visual Arts obtaining his degree 1990.

Influenced by artistic movements such as post impressionism, tachismo and action painting by Pollock, he embarks on a search as an artist, assuming a position of free thought where his creative spirit breaks with the established methods giving rise to his own artistic personality.

In 1998, with the work “Wetland”, he won first place in the Local Art Halls of Bogotá. In 1999 he won honorable mention at the Bogotá Biennial with the oil entitled “The Bus”.

Between 2005 and 2010 he makes several individual exhibitions with the series “Women Sun”, where he expresses the sensuality of the feminine in everyday scenarios; With this series he makes great murals in important public spaces in the city of Bogotá.

As of 2011, a new stage begins where his constant search and experimentation lead him to find his artistic and technical identity, which is how “Chromatic Forests” is born, a series that achieves a landscape abstraction, with a dripping or blasting that allows an absolute freedom in the application of color, with meaning and control. During the creative process, the artist develops his own instruments for the application of color, which are essential in the mystical moment of creation, where each stroke, stain and gesture become graphics that recreate the sensory exquisiteness of places full of moisture, depth, heat, lights and shadows.

In 2013 he created the series “Jardines de Gaia” consolidating his artistic identity with a deep spiritual content, where the expression of nature and the creations of the universe, are his inspiration, which are fully manifested in his artistic work, with chromatic explosions, where color is vibration, movement and balance, becoming an ode to the greatness of nature. For Camilo Torres, art in his life is summarized as a mystical process of deep dedication. A dance a ritual around the canvas.

In 2014, he won an honorable mention at the Suba International Art Biennial with the series “Urban Fluids” which is then exhibited in an individual exhibition in Medellín. In this series the artist represents the urban world, of his native and dear Bogotá.

In 2016 he exhibited “Chromatic Fluids” at the ACA gallery in Miami, making his works reach a position with a technique and a great mastery of color, obtaining his own identity, which gives Camilo Torres, a very particular space in the language artistic.
